Why did my dog die so young? Is this a myth?

Dogs are our Guardian Angels! asked:

Could it be from back yard breeding? He died of lymphoma, and 3 other dogs from his litter died of lymphoma months short of their 2nd birthday.

I blame it on back yard breeding, and when we bought the dog, she didn’t want to bring the btch out, because I had my female with me……so I didn’t get to see her……

I am well educated now, its a shame that a tragedy leads to education, but, I don’t regret saving him from that bad breeder.

Oh the reason why I know there were 3 other puppies from that same litter that died, is because when I called to report this byb to the state of illinois consumer protection…something like that, can’t remember…..but the lady was in shock, and said you are not going to believe this, but there are 3 other complaints, all dogs died from lymphoma……….from the same litter.

WE complained, and all they did was warn her. that’s it.

So anyway, can this be genetic, or over breeding or what?

Martin

probably over breeding and not caring about the health implications.,
What breed was it as it may be something the breed can suffer from?

It’s usually genetic in poorly bred dogs. Any respectable, responsible breeder would have the parents tested BEFORE breeding. Try adopting from an animal shelter next time. They need saving too. =)

I don’t think it is overbreeding( we don’t know that) as much as inbreeding and lack of knowlege or concern but for the almighty $.

I’m sorry for your loss. What breed is your dog? That’s why it is very important to do enough research about the breeder before taking the puppy home. I’m glad that you file a complain. I know it ***** that you have to learn the hard way.

well maybe the reason isen’t ur fault it’s because it died from the diesease
    * me i would never keep my dog in the back yard i only keep the dog in the base ment
*i don’t mean to say this but you also had to be a bad care taker i mean did it have a dog house? did it have enough foos? what did the vet say? still you should never had left it in the back yard that just plain old wrong cuz what happens if it was raining? would have leave it outside? think about it!

I’m very sorry about your puppy. Just some things that are coming to mind: possibly lyme disease, all it takes is one tick. Maybe distemper?

I would STRONGLY suspect a genetic link, in this case.

So sorry to hear about your dog.

Overbreeding and careless disregard of bringing good dogs into the world. {Read: an average backyard breeder}.

Most back-yard breeders are like that. They don’t care about the dogs, how much they breed one dog out over the course of their life, or the health of the puppies — all they see if the profit.

I’m sorry for your loss, but at least you’re better educated on the process now. I hope you can pick out a better pup next time, and good luck.

My guess is the byb didn’t give a damn about the dog she has or the pups. Some breeds, Boxers for one, have a predisposition to cancer but very seldom do they get it that young.
You should report them to other places also, ASPCA, SPCA and talk to the newspapers. I would. Cancer is NOT cheap to treat.
God bless you and I am sorry that you lost your pup.
